“We may think there is little of interest or importance in what we personally say or do – but it is remarkable how many of our families, as we pass on down the line, are interested in all that we do and all that we say” ~ Spencer W. Kimball

Topic for Tuesday 15th March - A Whole New World
How is the world now different from what it was like when you were a child?
When I was a child, I could leave my home right after breakfast and come home for dinner. Never checking in. No cell phone on my hip. My parents did not worry that I would get kidnapped or anything else. Things seemed much less threatening back in the 1970's. I played OUTSIDE all the time. I rode my Big Wheel, I roller skated, I walked around the neighborhood with all my friends, we played Hide and Go Seek. We did NOT spend all of our time in the house playing computer games. Even if it was raining, we were outside. We would play under a tree to keep out of the rain. We walked around with umbrellas. We floated our toy boats in the gutter when it was raining hard, to see whose "won" the race down the hill. (yes, as a girl I still had a toy boat -- I would make one out of juice cans!) Things were different, I believe, than the way things are now in that kids still used their imaginations back then, for entertainment. It's very are in these days to get kids to use their imaginations when everything is already "thought up" for them with those dang video games. I have nine children, and yes...they have the dang video games....BUT I really do limit their time on them. I insist they go outside and play, having adventures, exploring, inventing things to do. Sports are a big thing in our family, too. Every child has a sport, and we also bike ride as a family.
Oh wow...this got very long in a short amount of time. I type so quickly, I can't keep up with myself :)
